To be promoted need to upskill in many skills, this is recorded in a matrix. need to drive and update the matrix by yourself. limiting in the additional training provided. had to ask other employees for how they pushed or what they did to get promoted. not specifically explained without meeting with supervisors.
The employer is currently focused on prioritising internal promotions to improve culture and moral. they have created a career framework guide for each role which has criteria you need to fulfil to get a promotion and the pathways you are able to take. to move up the ranks, you have to demonstrate that you have met all of the criteria during one of the biyearly performance review meetings with your leader. the requirements for dev 1 and dev 2 are quite easy to fulfil, so most developers can expect to move up the lower ranks quite quickly. the main negative i have is that the career frameworks are currently quite vague and sound like they are written by people that don't understand the day to day work of a developer.
There are definitely promotion possibilities, my manager had a 1 on 1 with me just talking about career progression at the company as a developer, and what i need to do to be promoted. i have not had the chance to be promoted yet, but it seems easily achievable if you put the work in.
After the grad program i go straight into a sdr postion where my base increases and i can start earning comission.
Advice i have been given from other past grads is 'you drive your own career'.
